Scottish-born singer songwriter Mikie Henderson shares stories on love, loss and life to connect with and inspire fans across the world. Mikie’s traditional Scottish culture and American country music influences have fused to create a unique and modern sound.
His latest release Now Is The Time reached Number 2 in the Country Music Charts joining internationally famous musicians Keith Urban and Pink. Mikie is gaining a popular following from the North of Scotland and far beyond. He even has fans in Australia, Canada and America who bought his release - many calling it the perfect festival song. As well as rising to near the top of the iTunes Country Music Charts, knocking internationally acclaimed duo 'The Shires' off the number two spot, Mikie also reached number 46 in the iTunes Singles Chart - narrowly missing out on a top 40 single, but beating the likes of Sam Smith, Kylie, Van Morrison, Drake and Ava Max.
Now Is The Time is available on all platforms. When asked about the track, Mikie said, “Now Is The Time is the most fun I've ever had writing a song. I knew I wanted to write an upbeat and happy song, and set out my writing session with that thought in mind. I wanted to make special effort not to write about a breakup, which is such a common theme, so I just got to thinking - why not write about the exact opposite situation. I was sat next to my piano (the piano didn't actually feature in the recording in the end), and it was a writing session where the song just comes to you without any effort or stress.”
His debut single - If Only hit the iTunes Country Music Charts and received stand-out reviews from radio presenters across the country.
Graduating from Heriot Watt University with a Master’s Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2017, 14 months later, lacking both fulfilment in life and the ability to connect with people through music, Mikie quit his engineering job to begin a full-time career in music.
Mikie was born on 14th May 1994 in Wick to the background music of English rock band Smokie's hit Wild Angels. From that very first moment on Earth – he was destined to go on to grow his love of music.
Mikie's biggest influences are Brad Paisley and Eagles. At an early age Mikie got into country music with influences such as Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson and George Jones. Outside of country music Mikie is inspired by the music of Queen, The Proclaimers and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Mikie was the front man of popular country band The Chicken Pickers, who over the course of their career, played on the same bill as country stars such as Gene Watson, Leona Williams, Highway 101, and Heather Myles. Mikie featured on numerous episodes of BBC Alba's programme Ceol Country and has had various appearances on Spotlight TV.
Mikie is also a proud winner of the Silver Pendant singing award which is the highest accolade at the Royal National Mod for learners of the Scots Gaelic language.
